Morning ritual
Match sticks too old to light,
go to the stove, ignite.
Bring in candles
incense too.
Sit at your desk
As pen plays on paper.
Jot this, ponder that.
Calm your mind, sip tea.
Hours can pass
often do.
Life IS a dream,
just be you.

Working 3 at a time
I've been so slow. But putting in my time in the art room.

In the pink
I've had a neck and headache all week. So I got an easel from Dick Blicks on Monday. Unfortunately some of the work still needs to be done while all bent over the table.
Yoga and straight posture I'm hoping will help heal.
In the mean time I do what I can.
This post is so hokey!! Haha I haven't written in so long I must have forgotten how.

Unseasonably warm today!
This has been in process for a few months. haha....or should I say, put away for a few months. It's a combo of acrylic paint, coloured pencils and Indian ink. Don't ask about the meaning...I have forgot and the meaning will be changing while I work on it. But in the beginning I think it had something to do with embarrassment and poor self esteem. Downer, I know...it's just what came. I just follow what it is that "comes".
So a warm January day is predicted and I will be inside working. Hopefully I will get out soon enough to take Mattie for a nice walk! And pick up some coffee for Rich and I to meet at the park...so he can have a break. I'm such a thoughtful wife! ha
So Iowa has a tie with the caucus results...and Ron Paul is a close 3rd. I can live with that!
The challenge today is to replace all thoughts or spoken sentences that contain the word "hate" with the word "love".
Cheers!

Listening to old Cat Steven's...rainy, cloudy day today. I'm home working on art project...due to an understanding client... (I'm so blessed to know).
My little grandson called last night and asked me some questions about my life. He is doing a time-line project at school and needs to ask a person special in his life about their life. And then do a time-line mapped out showing that person's important accomplishments. I am honored he called me!! Though my "accomplishments" may not be considered GRAND according to anyone else's standards. Birth/fatal truck accident (I had to put some "gruesome" episodes for the 2nd graders interest...ha)/graduation/birth of sons/near drowning (another shock value occurrence...lol)/art show ribbon/birth of said grandson/marriage. That's my life on a time-line.

This is one of the little paintings I have been working on. The photo was taken in 2004 while on vacation with Rich. We took his kids to Tybee Island. We had only been dating for 3 months. We both LOVE this photo because it is when we were just getting to know each other. (this photo is kind of blurry)
Here is my crafting table...lucky to have such a big window there!
At least 10 inches of snow and still counting...it is still snowing and blowing. I had a day off because of the weather. So the curtains for the front porch were worked on. This is the view from our front window....made the paper snowflakes with Hunter and Richie.
What a contrast from the beach scene and the winter one!!

A look at a painting in progress...
On the current desktop.
I have a huge industrial drafting table with the wide metal base. You can imagine some draftsman (and sorry but yes, it was almost exclusively men back then) from the 1950's hunched over the maple tabletop sticking his pins into the wood to center the paper, in an office with dozens of desks...all the same.
You can still see letters and numbers imprinted into the wood. Printed so skillfully that they look as uniform as if they were hammered with a steel stamp. The table is adjustable height and tilt wise. It has been cherished by me for at least 20 years now. My sons and first husband surprised me one birthday and bought it and had it all set up for me in the basement of our first house. So mostly it is the memory of them caring so much and making it all so nice for me. And it was a surprise. The boys were little then and I'm sure that keeping it a secret was very hard for them to do. But they kept it quiet and I was moved to tears.
So now the drawing table is dismantled and stuck in the back of the tiny one car garage that is serving as our storage unit. I have been thinking about selling it. I'm sure it is worth some money. And some artsy type would be a very proud owner and excited to set it up in their space.
I am finding that I don't really need the big table to make things. And space here is limited. The memories I have relating to the desk are the important thing. As long as I have the memories safe in my head (and maybe in one of my diaries) I think I will be able to find the drafting table a new home.

In progress
...I started this a long time ago and can't even remember why I wrote those words on there. But I will paint some more on it. Until I think it is finished.
