There is a winter storm warning today.  Six to ten inches of snow is forecasted. A good day to be unwell...just some body aches...blah,blah...and a day off work to enjoy the snowfall.

Richie brought home some fresh rye bread and apple pie from the co-op this afternoon!

Running a couple days behind...

It's Tuesday already!  Seems am always running a little late...
Here are some scenes from Sunday night.  I canned up a batch of tomatoes, made an apple pie and finished up a pair of socks.  The photo of the socks is not real true to the colors.  The heel is a soft lime green while the body of the sock is a maroon color with specks of color.  But you can get the idea.

So I have to rush off to do some work...this week the house needs to be cleaned up spotless.  That is my major goal for this week.  If I do one room everyday after work...haha...what is that saying?  "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" ?????

This photo is sooo washed out.  Doesn't it look like one of the socks is wider than the other?  I think it is!!!  haha  Now who can I give these to?

In the neighborhood...I LOVE this entryway! So bright and cheery. (could do without the trashcan however...haha).

It's Monday and my day off without any obligations or work!!! So I am revamping the blog.

There are lots of photos that I took over the weekend while walking in the neighborhood. We live in an old "Bohemian" section of town. Where immigrants put down roots. It is characterized by small cottage like homes with large yards. The early inhabitants here had little money for a prestigious home and were eclectic and diverse in their "lifestyles". There were huge family gardens in yards along with chickens and small livestock. How I would love to be able to see this neighborhood how it was back then!!

Here are some photos so you can get a feel for the area.

Our new house!! We are so very happy to have been able to move here. This is a great neighborhood for us. Close to the downtown and close to parks...YAY...We are blessed.
sitting at the table with some tea...wondering how to send mom lots of photos of the new house via "the Internets". Off work today!!! I am soooo blessed to have the day off! There is laundry on the line and chores to be done. Then I will start with making some new curtains. Haven't been able to find my sewing machine so I have been doing all the sewing by hand.

I made these valances (they are lined even) completely by hand. The curtains for the bottom half of the windows will not be lined and will be of linen. I love the pine paneling...it is thick and aged. You can barely see the table that we touched up, it was Richie's grandma's.

Beautiful Saturday and we both are off!! Plans for the day include: sewing up some curtains, staining some shelves for the kitchen, eating dinner out, going to Wilson's Apple Orchard...and what ever else we can squeeze in! So excited for this day...sunny and already have a load of laundry on the line.

Last night we walked to the downtown(about 13 blocks) and they had a Reggie/Jazz band playing in the ped-mall. LOTS of people, dancing and food. We grabbed a coffee and sat on a bench for a while. Walked back home and watched a stupid movie on hulu.

These were waiting for me after work...

notice that I put them next to the bed.

And my sweetheart brought THESE home at dinnertime.

The story on the tickets goes like this:

We were walking downtown with C (Hubby's daughter) on her birthday weekend. And we walked past the Theater. I remarked how much I loved the Neville Brother's and Aaron Neville's voice.
Without my knowledge he has been inquiring about getting some tickets. Unfortunately they have been sold out for weeks. So he just happened to mention it to an acquaintance of his who owns an art gallery in town. The gallery owner said that the gallery was having a private reception for the Neville Brothers and that they were supposed to get some free tickets. And offered any free tickets that came his way to my hubby. And so today Hubby gets a call from the gallery owner that he has 2 tickets if we still want them!!! And that is how these tickets became ours!

We are blessed to have each other. (I'm the one who is blessed)

A weekend with the boys

They had a good time and made some new friends!

I love the graffiti...

This building was damaged in the flood of last year. It is student housing.
The weekend was great!

This morning he has a little cold.

He had some tea with honey and cough medicine.

We saw this yesterday.

On the highway there were about 5 vehicles in the ditches and this semi with pickup wedged under it. It was horrifying to see...

Also yesterday we took the little one ice skating for his first time. It was Richies first time too!

More snow...

you can see the snow drifting off of the roof. The winds were blizzard like!

This is a scene from an allyway last night. It kind of looks like a page in a turn of the century photo album.

Richie driving the truck at night. This is the first time I have tried night photography with this camera.

We spent from about 5 p.m. last night until almost 10 p.m. shoveling and plowing snow. Both of us are sore and tired today. Thank God I didn't have to go in and work today...he did. And I feel so sorry for him.

Who are these two homeless looking people? OH...me and Richie taking a break from shoveling and plowing. We were sitting at a local McDonald's!

Today we have sub-zero temperatures.

Sunday

Iowa city, Iowa. Saturday January 10, 2009.

We are lounging today. Lots of snow to look at and yesterday we shoveled snow in the I.C. for 4 hours! Kind of sore today...

I really don't even want to go outside today at all. But we may go and take a drive to check out small nearby towns. Seeing how far out we could live and still work here.
